Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
